My Work Experience

To help me prepare for the media industry, I have taken part in a wide selection of work experience opportunities. I am currently looking for a full time job in the digital media industry.

I am currently a part time sales assistant at Next. During my time in this role, I have learnt how to communicate with customers, provide excellent customer service and help others. Teamwork is a required skill for my job since I need to be able to communicate with my colleges and help them with tasks. Since I work on the tills, I am learning new technical skills. Being able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment are essential skills I use for my job.

During my work experience volunteering at a Barnardo’s charity shop, I received a certificate stating I have volunteered 105 hours of my time which demonstrates how determined I am for a cause I believe in. I worked on my teamwork skills by helping with tasks that needed doing such as tagging and steaming clothes. I also learnt how to be more independent and take initiative by doing tasks myself. I certainly developed my confidence of talking to new people during my time at Barnardo’s by talking to my colleagues and customers.

At Work Creative, I had to use my creativity and problem-solving skills to design different logos in Adobe Illustrator for a company called Sidekick. I picked up some new skills when I created logos for my client; I had to experiment and see the logos in different perspectives.

During my time at Keyhole Creative, I learnt some basic technical camera skills and I attended a networking event which let me experience all aspects of working for a company. While editing a podcast, I had to ensure that my cuts were precise to remove any unnecessary filler words. They taught me how to use the track select tool, ripple edit tool and additional keyboard shortcuts to make my editing faster.

I am very grateful for my time at these companies. These opportunities helped me gain new skills and build my knowledge. I believe work experience has been very beneficial for me and I would encourage others to take part.
